My name is John Broomfield but my friends call me Broomy. I was born in Brisbane, Australia and grew up fishing a lot with my father. I gained an affinity for the ocean at an early age and wondering at the surfers flying across the waves during our holidays we spent at Lennox Head, New South Wales. Once I got my first surfboard I was completely obsessed with surfing. I was about 12 years old when the Billabong surf movie “Pump” engraved visions of surf in distant lands into my prepubescent head. Seeing surfers getting chased by Elephants with boards underarm in lands far away really caught my attention. As I grew, read, watched and surfed more, I got to the stage where I couldn’t take it any longer. It was time to embark on my own ‘Search’. And what I found changed my life forever.
