Greetings to my tribe, A lifetime of surfing, 1961 to 1965; high school truancy-expert surfing from tijuana slews to rincon. 1965 hawaii summer surf, met robbie rath, mike mcpherson, boogie, gonzie and the boys at the ala wai...an epic summer with lotsa pole sets. 1966 and 1967 surfed all over california. 1968 enlisted in the submarine service at pearl harbor.we get 3 months on and 3 months off duty, so i move to the north shore and my first shortboard is a cut down by jackie eberle and my surf buddy is ted chihara who loves laniakea. 1969 I start to travel to europe and the middle east, and then joining some old friends at j-bay before the masses arrived. Return to Kauai and start thinking about living on and surfing with a boat. Self build my sailboat and move aboard for about 8 years. surf the ranch and the channel islands for several years (possibly the best time surfing,except the wetsuits). Sail to the islands, build home on kauai, start family, and businesses to survive, and most important, surf every good day! I am so grateful I live hawaii, ...thank you god....I have watched hanalei change for about forty years and i'm always amazed by the amount of change that is possible, from quite sandunes on a gravel road, to a laguna beach in forty years( j-bay)... We need to unite the old and the new breed of surfers to save what's left of the earth. This website could be huge in raising awareness among wave riders......Thanks....
